Two separate reports have simultaneously identified the upcoming iPad as the iPad HD. Both CNET and VentureBeat have been tipped that Apple’s third-generation tablet will be named so to emphasize the double-resolution 2048×1536 display. While still going mainly on word, the moniker surfaced after accessory retailers had the soon-to-arrive device listed as “iPad HD” rather than simply “iPad 3.”

While the media have claimed that the next iPad model, which will be introduced next Wednesday, would be launched under the name of iPad 3, accessory builders, whose products are starting to appear in retailers’ inventory systems, have suggested a possible alternative iPad HD name. Though informal, and possibly only a placeholder for foiling “iPad 3” searches, the newly supposed name does line up with little detail provided about the upcoming graphics-centered tablet.

The RepairLabs website has reportedly obtained digitizer components for the upcoming iPad 3. Essentially, the digitizer is the front panel, including the front glass and the touchscreen. Pictures provided by the source seem to corroborate that Apple’s third-generation tablet will arrive in black and white variants and keep using a traditional Home button. Some speculation based on the photos included in the media invitation to the March 7th iPad 3 press event have seen Apple somehow remove the button.
