The government of the country wants to know why the aforesaid top-notch companies increase prices for Australian consumers, while the prices in the United States are much lower. As all three refused to send their representatives to public hearings of the IT Pricing Inquiry, they will have to explain high pricing in Australian court. The government and Parliament of Australia have warned Apple that if they fail to comply again, legal consequences will follow. According to Ed Husic, member of country’s Parliament, the IT companies should have cooperated with officials from the very beginning. They should have made their pricing practices more open and transparent.

Apple has reached a settlement with the Australian regulator over the false 4G iPad advertisement and is now bound to pay an AU$2.25 million penalty to the ACCC. Aside from that amount, the company is also anticipated to pay AU$300,000 toward the commission’s legal fees. The ACCC representative Colin Golvan called the penalty “substantial” and expressed hope that it would help to undo the harm done by the misleading promotion.
