On Friday, The Wall Street Journal claimed that both Apple and Google were bidding on Kodak’s patent portfolio expected to be sold off in August. The news came from the publication’s editor Dennis Berman, who tweeted in his microblog that the two companies were the most likely candidates for buying the collection.

Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1N Remain on Sale in EU

Following Apple’s recent victory in a German court which upheld a sales ban against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 throughout the European Union, two other Samsung products, the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1N, were cleared of all infringement charges on Thursday. The latest ruling of the Higher Court of Munich is actually an appeal of the initial decision made by a lower court in February, IDG News Service claims. In an original complaint, Apple argued the two devices violated its European ‘scrolling’ patent.

Apple Awarded ‘Scroll bar’ Patent for Use in Portable Devices

A patent describing the mechanism of both vertical and horizontal scroll bars which appear when moving through a message thread or audio playlist was recently granted to Apple in an untypically quick approval procedure. The filing was initially lodged with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in March, a little over four months from now. The patented technology also refers to any “digital document” that can’t be fully displayed on the small screen of a portable device.

Windows 8 Launch Slated for Oct. 26, New Hardware to Follow

During its latest annual sales meeting, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 would roll out in 231 markets on October 26th.  Existing Windows XP, 7 or Vista users will be able to upgrade for $40 as well as optionally add Windows Media Center free of charge via the new OS’ “add features” option. The Windows 8 release is expected to be followed by a string of PC, Ultrabooks and tablets running the next-gen version.
