DigiTimes informers assigned the release of smaller version of the iPad in the third quarter of next year. According to rumors, LG Display and AU Optronics are potential suppliers of LCD panels.
If Apple is not going to change its tradition, then the iPad mini (it can be called so) will enter the market earlier than the elder model of the third generation.
Reference sources of publications agree that the miniature iPad will be Apple’s answer to the growing consumers demand for devices with a small form factor. We may reckon that these devices are the cheap tablet Kindle Fire from Amazon with the of diagonal size of 7 inches or 5.3-inch Galaxy Note from Samsung that are available on the market.

The size down of iPad will be a mistake of Apple. Steve is right, it’s not efficient use of small size iPad as iPad has so many great functions. Apple should maintain its unique design and function. Following it’s competitors movement of making small mini iPad, Apple will lost its advantage, and it couldn’t distinguish itself with other products.
